Residents draw to the attention of Brisbane City Council the absence of off-leash dog parks in the suburb of McDowall. Residents in the area enjoy keeping active by walking their dogs in the nearby parks, particularly along Cabbage Tree Creek in Spielberg Street Park. However, there is nowhere for dogs to run, exercise and socialise with other dogs. The nearest off-leash dog park is in Bridgeman Downs. There is sufficient space for an off-leash dog park either in Spielberg Street Park or Streisand Drive Park in McDowall. An off-leash dog park will allow dogs to exercise and socialise in a safe environment without endangering or annoying people, property, or wildlife in the reserve/park. Additionally, this off-leash area would increase opportunities for residents to interact with their neighbours and help create a sense of community. Non-dog owners also benefit from a local canine population that is better socialised and exercised more frequently, as the dogs are more likely to be well-behaved.
Your petitioners therefore request that the Council considers the installation of an off-leash dog park in Spielberg Street Park or Streisand Drive Park (also known as Dr Valentine McDowall Park) in the suburb of McDowall.
