The Yeronga RSL is seeking to name a small riverside park at the end of Heritage Close, near the old Rhyndarra Military Hospital, as Rigby Place in honour of a distinguished pioneering family who settled in Shottery St in the 1880s and whose sons served in both WW1 and WW2. The Rigby Family helped found the Yeronga RSL where it stands today. Our community is also seeking to rename Esplanade Park (a default name for the street) after Ron Goeldner, a master builder, who together with Pat, raised their family on the Esplanade and whose lifetime of volunteer service to the local community through NHW and the YDRA, local schools, Kindy's, the RSL and more has enriched our community immeasurably.
Petitioners call on Brisbane City Council to:
1. name the riverside parkland at Heritage Close, Yeronga adjacent to the former Rhyndarra Military Hospital site as Rigby Place in honour of this local family’s significant wartime service in WW1 and WW2 and the establishment of the Yeronga RSL; and
2. rename The Esplanade Park, Ron Goeldner Park, in recognition of Ron’s significant contribution to the Yeronga and Brisbane community through his life-long volunteer service for the Yeronga NHW, Yeronga District Resident’s Association, Yeronga Dutton Park RSL, local schools, kindergartens.
