Kingfisher Drive, Upper Kedron, has a small crossing (Google Pulse Code Reference -5R4JHWFC+XW) that provides a critical thoroughfare for local wildlife - Ducks, Ducklings, Wallabies, etc as a point of crossing between green zones that connect the area to the broader Keperra saddle and D'Aguilar National Park. This thoroughfare has seen an increase in traffic with the addition of Stage 4 Palisades Drive. In addition, this section of road also has a single lane chicane where Egret Street and Budgerigar Street converge which will see further increased traffic with the development of Highbury Estate.

Petition looks to seek support for the addition of 'Wildlife Crossing' signage to this section of road to bring awareness to the habitat crossing, reduce driver risk as well as prompt heightened awareness and reduce speed in this section of chicane.

Council response

Thank you for your petition requesting wildlife crossing signage on Kingfisher Drive, Upper Kedron.

In response to your petition, Council’s Natural Environment, Water and Sustainability branch has completed an ecological assessment of Kingfisher Drive, Upper Kedron, and although there are very few records of wildlife vehicle strike in this area, it is acknowledged that wildlife including wallabies, small mammals and ducks would be moving within this wildlife corridor. Therefore, wildlife awareness signage is considered beneficial at this location.

It is anticipated that the signs will be installed before the end of June 2018.

Thank you for raising this matter.
