Residents draw to the attention of the Lord Mayor and Council the proposal for 400-500 units at 53 Fairlawn Street, Nathan. Nathan has approximately 400 homes and this will double the amount of residences.

Your petitioners therefore request that the Lord Mayor and Council stop over-development in Nathan. In particular, the approval of such development would result in the following: 1. Overwhelming pressure on the one road entry into the suburb at Fairlawn Street and Toohey Road. 2. Impact on emergency service vehicles entering and leaving the suburb. 3. Create significant risk in leaving the suburb in the event of fire or emergency.

Council response

Thank you for your petition requesting that Council prevent overdevelopment on a site at 53 Fairlawn Street, Nathan (application reference A004679280).

Council has completed an investigation and considered your request. It was decided that the petitioners be advised of the following information.

The development application is for a preliminary approval under section 242 of the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 (the Act) to vary the effect of Brisbane City Plan 2014 (City Plan) to allow the land to be developed for residential purposes.

This development application is currently being assessed against the requirements of City Plan and in accordance with the Act. The issues raised concerning the density, increased pressure on the road network, impacts on the operation of emergency services vehicles, and potential risk to residents evacuating in the event of fire or emergency are all relevant planning matters being taken into consideration in the assessment of this development application.
