The Boundary St precinct in West End - including Jane Street, Russell Street and parts of Vulture Street, has not received any major investment or improvement (apart from footpath replacements) in over 20 years. The uses of this precinct have changed dramatically in that time, and the streetscape is no longer well adapted to cater for current and projected volumes of pedestrians and cyclists, nor for community events and festivals. Some of the bespoke furniture is looking a bit weatherworn and needs to be painted and repaired. Street lighting and signage is also inadequate or out-of-date.
Your petitioners therefore request that Council allocate funding in 2018/19 to upgrade this village precinct and consult broadly and democratically as to how residents and local traders would like to see this streetscape improved.
The Village Precinct Project program has been fully allocated for 2018-19. However, the Boundary Street shopping precinct, West End, will be investigated as a potential site for future upgrades as part of the Village Precinct Projects program.
