Residents draw to the attention of Council the neglect of the Annerley Junction shopping precinct public realm and the availability of funding in the 2018-19 Council Budget and forward years for new Village Precinct Projects. Annerley Junction has been on the list for SCIP for 10 years and residents have previously petitioned Council to upgrade this busy community shopping hub.
Residents call on Council to deliver a new Village Precinct Project at Annerley Junction shopping precinct along Ipswich Rd, Annerley using dedicated funding announced in the 2018-19 Council Budget and/or future years. The aim of the Village Precinct Project is to enhance and beautify the Annerley Junction shopping precinct through improved footpaths, seating, street trees, signage, gardens beds and street art to promote business and consumer confidence in this busy retail hub which is adversely impacted by heavy traffic volumes on Ipswich Rd.
Funding for the Village Precinct Project program for the 2018-19 financial year has been fully allocated. However, Council’s Transport Planning and Operations team is currently undertaking a corridor study of Ipswich Road, and Council will wait for outcomes from this study prior to assessing the suitability of the Annerley Junction shopping centre precinct as a Village Precinct Project.
