The Lord Mayor committed $431,000 in the 2017-18 Brisbane City Council Budget for an outdoor sports facility at O'Callaghan Park in Zillmere. This funding would have been a welcome investment in a community that has seen their rates increase by over 12.6% in the last 4 years alone.
There is a clear need for lighting in this precinct with well documented safety issues, and the funding committed in the 2017-18 would have allowed both the construction of the multi-use games area and lighting, seating and other works. The project was delayed and funding was slashed to just $213,000 in the 2018-19 budget. This cut in funding will mean Zillmere will miss out once again.
Your petitioners therefore request the full $431,000 funded in the 2017-18 BCC Budget for the multi-use games area for O'Callaghan Park be reinstated and spent this financial year on this project and include lighting and seating.
