Residents draw to the attention of the Lord Mayor to limit the height and not allow 6 storey high retirement village and aged care developments on land situated adjacent to or across the street from low density residential housing areas in Nudgee. In addition we the undersigned are concerned about shops, food and drink outlets, clubs and other commercial premises being built as part of any new development.

Your petitioners therefore request the Brisbane City Council NOT allow 6 storey high retirement village and aged care developments on land situated adjacent to or across the street from low density residential housing areas in Nudgee. The petitioners are further concerned about shops, food and drink outlets, clubs and other commercial premises being built as part of any new development.

Council response

Thank you for your petition requesting that Council not allow six-storey high retirement village and aged care developments on land adjacent to, or across the street from, low density residential housing areas in Nudgee.

There are currently no retirement or aged care development applications lodged on land adjacent to housing in Nudgee that propose a six-storey building height. Should any such development application be lodged, the community will still be able to make submissions and have their say.

The intention for care co-located uses is to provide ancillary support facilities serving the needs of residents of a retirement and residential care facility, as well as providing opportunities for interaction with the local community. The Brisbane City Plan 2014 Retirement and aged care amendment package contains specific requirements to ensure that there are no impacts on local amenity.

Thank you for raising this matter.
