Fitzgibbon requires a regular bus service. Currently the only bus service that goes through the area is the 341 which runs twice during peak hours and only covers the edge of the suburb. We need a regular bus service to cover the bulk of the suburb. E.g. along Norris Rd, then up Carselgrove Rd to at least the Chermside Interchange. The nearest public transport is the train station at Carseldine which can be a 15-30-minute walk.
Your petitioners therefore request the Council instate a regular bus service for Fitzgibbon.
Thank you for your petition requesting Council provide a regular bus service for the residents of Fitzgibbon.
Council operates its bus service under contract with TransLink, a division of the Queensland Government’s Department of Transport and Main Roads. TransLink is responsible for the delivery of public transport services and infrastructure for South East Queensland.
Council works in conjunction with TransLink to ensure the residents and visitors of Brisbane have access to a reliable and accessible public transport network, with TransLink having the overall responsibility for approving and funding any new bus services or changes to services. In determining any bus network expansion, Council works with TransLink to ensure that services will be well utilised and meet customer demand.
Council has investigated several options to provide additional bus services to the Fitzgibbon area, including implementing new bus routes or amending existing bus routes. Council is currently working with TransLink to determine the operational viability and possible timeframes to seek approval to implement these route changes.
Given that TransLink is responsible for funding additional services and new service requests, the petitioners’ request will be raised with TransLink for their consideration.
Thank you for raising this matter.
