Every year Sedgley Park dog off-leash area (Dog Park) is closed to restore grass for approximately 2 months of the year. The Dog Park is either closed for the grass to restore itself or new grass is laid at the expense of the council. Depending on rainfall, the Dog Park area can return to a dust bowl as quickly as a month of the Dog Park being re-opened. Currently the Dog Park is 80% dirt/sand even with consistent rainfall. It appears the Dog Park is too small for the amount of activity as the grass cannot handle the amount of stress from 'crazy furballs'.
This petition is requesting a permanent solution by proposing an extension of the Dog Park. The Park could be extended further north-west, parallel Enoggera Road. The proposed extension would end at the furthest tree line (The Dog Park for small Dogs/Puppies would be moved in conjunction). Alternatively, the main Dog Park could be extended to the furthest northern tree line and the Dog Park for small Dogs/Puppies could be moved separately onto the other side of the southern footpath, underneath the large trees. As this would create more space for Dogs to roam, the grass would have time to regenerate without the need of closing the park every year or grass replacement expenses.
