Residents draw to the attention of Council the limited capacity on buses serving commuters at Langlands Park station in morning peak hour. Residents note that many inbound buses are already full or overcrowded by the time they reach Langlands Park station.
Your petitioners therefore request that Council engage with the State Government to see that they increase the number of bus services for the Coorparoo, Stones Corner and Greenslopes residents who rely on the Langlands Park station for their morning commute.
Thank you for your petition requesting increased bus services in the morning from Langlands Park Station for residents of Coorparoo, Stones Corner and Greenslopes.
Council operates its bus services under a contract with TransLink, a division of the Queensland Government’s Department of Transport and Main Roads. TransLink is responsible for the delivery of public transport services and infrastructure for South East Queensland.
Council works in conjunction with TransLink to ensure the residents and visitors of Brisbane have access to a reliable and accessible public transport network, with TransLink having the overall responsibility for approving and funding any new bus services or changes to services. In determining any bus network expansion, Council works with TransLink to ensure that services will be well utilised and meet customer demand.
There are currently a number of bus services that stop at Langlands Park Station in the morning peak period, with some of these bus services not at capacity when arriving at Langlands Park Station such as the route 61 (Maroon) CityGlider service. There is still capacity on this service as the service commences at Coorparoo Square, which is one stop before Langland Park Station.
Council has conducted preliminary investigations into possible alternative solutions, in addition to the services currently available from Langlands Park Station. This includes rerouting the existing route P201, via Old Cleveland Road to stop at Langlands Park and Stones Corner stations.
Any modification to services requires approval from TransLink, who are responsible for funding additional services.
In response to this petition, Council will make a recommendation to TransLink to consider rerouting P201 via Old Cleveland Road to stop at Langlands Park and Stones Corner stations. In addition, Council will write to TransLink asking that they consider the petitioners’ request to increase the number of services in the morning from Langlands Park Station.
